LostCoast
Maine Coons generally have several litters of kittens during the
year. We screen potential kitten buyers carefully as we want to
ensure that our babies go to the best homes possible. We provide
written sales contracts for each cat or kitten purchased – this
ensures that the new pet will have a long and healthy life within
its new home.
Currently LostCoast cattery follows an early alter program for most
of its pet kittens. What this means is that when the kitten or cat
is delivered, it is already neutered or spayed. In these cases, the
registration papers are delivered at the time the cat or kitten goes
to its new home. For those limited cases in which the kitten is not
early altered, we require that the kitten be altered by six months
of age. Upon receipt from a licensed veterinarian that states that
this requirement has been met, the kitten’s registration paperwork
will be sent listing you as the registered owner.
We
require that the kitten not be declawed. We feel this is an
unnecessarily cruel procedure, as it involves the amputation of the
animal’s fingertips at the first knuckle. All of our cats and
kittens grow up with cat trees and scratching posts. Providing
either a tree or a post for your new pet will eliminate the
possibility of damage.
Our cats and kittens have been raised as healthy indoor only
pets. Not only does the great outdoors pose extreme risks to cats
(dogs, other cats, car anti-freeze, cars themselves), but pedigreed
cats are at higher risk for theft. Your new kitten will be happy
even in a small apartment or house as long as adequate toys and
attention are provided.
